“Summer Academy Team Leader”

New Heights was founded in October 2005 in New York City as a private, independent non-profit organization. Our mission is “to educate and empower promising inner-city youth to be leaders, champions and student-athletes by developing the skills necessary for success in high school, college and life.”

New Heights provides intensive, long-term support for promising young athletes, primarily from the inner city, to develop the academic skills, leadership abilities and character traits ultimately necessary to be successful in life beyond sports. We work with approximately 200 kids, grades 4-12, year-round, in a comprehensive program that includes:

  Travel basketball teams

  Academic support, tutoring and counseling

  High School preparation, guidance and placement services

  College preparation, guidance and placement services

  New Heights Summer Academy, a four-week academic-athletic summer program

We are looking for smart, responsible, motivating young leaders who can successfully support the organization and implementation of our Summer Academy. Team Leaders must have demonstrated academic proficiency in math and English Language Arts in order to capably assist our rising 5th through 8th grade student-athletes in the classroom. They should also possess sufficient basketball knowledge and skills in order to support their development on the court. Current college students preferred. Student-athlete experience (basketball or other), and/or camp counselor experience is a plus.

Summer Academy Team Leader Primary Responsibilities:

  Actively participate in SA 2018 staff training and planning (July 3rd, 5th & 6th).

  Be responsible for the safety and well-being of all campers throughout Summer Academy.

  Be a positive role model and example for all campers and peers.

  Work with an assigned group of participants and spend the day with them serving as a counselor in a supervisory role.

  Assist individual students and facilitate small group discussions or projects in the classroom.

  Work with small groups to improve basketball skills and conditioning.

  Provide organizational support for coaches, including working with scoreboards, helping with water stations, managing scrimmages and overall student-athlete participation.

  Adhere to and enforce Program Policies and Procedures.

  Promote and model New Heights’ T.R.E.E. values throughout the summer.

  Manage daily attendance collection for their group.

  Support the Academy Director, Assistant Directors, Educational and Athletic Staff as needed.

Schedule:
The program hours for the Summer Academy Team Leader will be:
July 9th – Aug 3rd (with potential for additional week away Aug 5th- 9th)
Monday – Friday, 8:15am-4:45pm
